Masters Rowing
NPBRC has an active group of adult (i.e. "Masters") competitive, semi-competitive, and recreational rowers who row, train and often compete throughout the year. Our Men's and Women's teams are small but growing, and are open to all levels of rowing experience - whether that be four years of college crew or graduation from one of our Novice classes. W
e have a seat for any experience level.
Rowers are encouraged to "bring the rate up" - from Novice through our Elite squad - when they feel they are ready to take their rowing to the next level! Advancement from the Semi-Competitive to Competitive squad is based upon coach recommendation.
Novice Program: There is no better way to learn the sport than by joining our Novice Rower program. If this is your first time rowing let our team of experienced oarsmen teach you the fundamentals. Our Novice Program takes you from land-based workouts on ergometers (rowing machines that mirror the motion of a rowing stroke) to rowing either solo or with others in an 8, 4, or 2-man boat.
Novice Program Dates: Ongoing! Our Novice group currently meets Monday nights at 5:30pm for coached rows. This is open to Learn to Row grads and Semi-Competitive Masters who want extra coaching. Club membership is a pre-requisite. Cost is currently $40 per month for coaching once a week.
Recreational: This group was built with our recreational rowers in mind. Primarily comprised of scullers, Recreational rowers get on the water either in groups or solo to enjoy the stunning scenery at their own pace. Rec-rowers use our members' directory to coordinate rows as a group or simply get on the water at their own convenience.
Semi-Comp: A coached, Semi-Competitive option for those who already have some skill rowing, whether as a graduate of our Novice program or whether you're making the switch from Rec to Competitive. Semi-Comp will push you physically in a fun group environment - a mix of both sculling and sweep rowing - without quite going to the extreme. Rowing is a highly technical sport; Our focus here is on developing the technical skills that will allow you to "hang" at the next level should you choose to advance. This team gives you the ability to push yourself at a moderate pace (or more so if you choose) without the commitment required by our competitive squad.
Semi-Competitive rows:
- Practices occur in 4+'s, 4x's, 2x/2-, or singles.
- Contact us (attn: Jock) for more information or to join us for a weekend row. Please include any prior experience or preference (sculling, sweep, starboard, port, etc.)
Competitive: NPBRC's most competitive, most challenging program - one that will test your limits physically and push you and your teammates mentally to develop your rowing potential to its fullest. This squad is coached by a former British National Team rower and is comprised of Masters-age men and women who want to test themselves against the best competition out there in "the fastest shells in Florida". This group travels to and competes in regattas in Florida and nationally. Competitive Team rowers should know how to scull and sweep equally well.
Competitive Practices:
Competitive Squad Regattas:
- We will be racing this Summer and Fall, 2012, at some major regattas in and out of state. Schedule is TBD - check back or, better yet, stop by a practice to find out more.
Private Lessons:We offer private sculling lessons on a case-by-case basis. Cost: $60 per lesson. Each lesson averages 1-1.5 hours.
The Corporate Challenge
There is a very good reason why a photo of rowers is often paired with missives on "TEAMWORK". If your company is seeking the best team-building activity out there - one that teaches a disparate group to work with unity, precision and cooperation while still being LOADS of fun - we have the answer. The Corporate Challenge is a small-group team-building exercise custom built for your group. We can work around your company's needs to develop a program and pace that is right for you. Contact our President to learn how we can help. (President@npbrc.com) For one example of a Corporate rowing program: Click here
